A group calling itself Students for Justice in Palestine has sent a list of demands to Manhattan New School, calling on the college to cut ties with Tel Aviv’s conservatory of music over Israel’s ‘genocidal campaign against the people of Gaza and the West Bank’.

The students claim that ‘universities make up a key part of the ideological infrastructure of the Israeli colonial regime and produce knowledge that contributes to the subjugation of the Palestinian people.’

They threaten unspecified radical action if their demands are not met.

There has been no response from New School, an instition that once provided have for Jewish scholars fleeing Nazi persecution in Germany.

For what it’s worth, “Dr. Shiva” on that poster is Shiva Ayyadurai, a far right loon and constant fringe candidate in Massachusetts. A completely different wing than Students for Justice in Palestine.

  • anon says:

Considering that Israelis of all types, from random citizens to politicians in high offices, are making hysterical claims such as “the current war is one of civilization against barbarism”, I think it is entirely appropriate we demand outside parties within our influence to refrain from any actions that can provide further justifications of the ongoing genocide.

  • Jack says:

This overblown, overheated rhetoric — on both sides — has gotten on my nerves for years.

  • Alank says:

I am sick of these ignorant little Maoists. Most of them could not even find Gaza or the West Bank on a world map much less even understand the meaning of genocide. Someone should drop them off in Kabul or Teheran to see how intersectionality is viewed by the Taliban and Mullahs.

    • Emil says:

Ah yes, because Afghanistan is the standard by which we should measure equality. By that standard, I’ll grant it to you: Israel is a more egalitarian society than Afghanistan.
Now, back to the mass killing and forced displacement of thousands of civilians, please.

      • M2N2K says:

It is obvious that without the murderous acts committed by Hamas and their supporters last month current “mass killings and forced displacement” made necessary by cowardly methods of the terrorists would not have happened, so these actions by IDF are perfectly legitimate self-defense and therefore Israel is definitely not guilty.

      • James says:

Sure – Hamas (genocidal by ts very charter) massacred and tortured in the most sadistic ways possible more than 1200 Israelis, are doing their best every day to kill more, have openly declared their intent to do this again and again and again – with help from their patrons in Iran and their partners in Hezbollah (also attacking Israelis daily from Lebanon), while 250,000 Israelis have been displaced from their homes in a war they did not seek and did not start.

Aided and abetted by the immature adults who surround them. None of this exists in a vacuum. Perennial children.

  • Anthony Sayer says:

These deluded, ignorant fools indulging in their laughable luxury leftist lunacy.

  • Rob says:

As a sort of musical antidote to what is going on, I found this amazing interview with Stokowski who is asked about his attendance of the first performance of Mahler’s 8th and sneaking into the rehearsals.

  • Ellingtonia says:

I think the appropriate response to the demands of the group is “get thyself hence in short jerky movements” or as we say in the UK “just fuck off”

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

Who would take notice of anybody from the Left, since they’ve never grown up. This is yet more evidence.

    • Not Sue says:

SSF: if you enjoy making the same comments over and over, have at it. Your worldview doesn’t seem to be gaining any traction, but at least you’ve fully expressed your hatred of the “Lefties.” Do you feel all warm inside, now?

  • Jim C. says:

    Colonial, I love it.

According to the history books, Jews were there first.

  • Steve Cox says:

Students who threaten violence should be expelled and the matter should be referred to the NYPD and FBI. “…by any means necessary.”

  • Simon Black says:

I attend the Manhattan School of Music and also went to Purchase. I am sure both MSM and Purchase would love to have the Israeli jazz students come there instead of The New School, which doesn’t seem able to come out publicly rejecting the demands to expel these students back to Israel. The Tel Aviv Conservatory should immediately contact MSM, Purchase, Queens College, Juilliard, etc., and forget about The New School which can’t even comment publicly, leaving these students to twist in the wind.

  • Peter Corman says:

To think that The New School, which became known for having rescued mostly Jewish scholars from Hitler, is now silent after anti-semitic student groups have demanded the expulsion of Israeli students from the university and threatened everyone if it doesn’t happen. And The New School says nothing. Some smart music conservatory should offer to accept all the Israeli jazz students for immediate transfer, to a place that will appreciate and protect them.
