SW German radio demolishes new-music studio
OrchestrasThe final notes sounded this weekend at Hans Rosbaud Studio, a place founded in 1950 by a pioneering conductor to reacquaint post-War Germans with modern music. Stravinsky, Hindemith, Boulez and Stockhausen all presented new works there.
The building in Baden-Baden is being demolished to finance its SWR’s 63.5 million Euros media centre on the other side of the street.
Vandalism. A disgrace. Those walls have more music than there’s common sense today!
The Hans Rosbaud Studio is not located in Freiburg, but in Baden-Baden. And so will be the new SWR Medienzentrum.
This studio building is definitely not in Freiburg. It is located in the city of Baden-Baden, where SWR radio was founded in 1948. The new media center will also be built there.
However the Hans Rosbaud Studio is in Baden-Baden, not in Freiburg!
Hans Rosbaud studio is in Baden-Baden. Or was. The confusion arises because the orchestra’s home after the fusion with Radio-Sinfonie Orchestra Stuttgart, is in Freiburg.
One would hope that at the very least some way will be found to honor and perpetuate the name of Hans Rosbaud.
