To follow their triumphant New York concert last year, the orchestra of the Royal Opera of Madrid returns to perform Falla’s seductive El amor brujo with Seville’s acclaimed Flamenco singer Esperanza Fernández. Spanish virtuoso Pablo Ferrández plays Dvořák’s Cello Concerto. Plus, the Suite Panambi by Ginastera and Ravel’s sensuous Daphnis et Chloé conducted by Juanjo
Mena.
One of Spain’s most important cultural institutions, Teatro Real was founded by King Ferdinand VII over two hundred years ago. After a years-long renovation, Teatro Real reopened in 1997 with great ceremony by the Presidents of its Council, the King and Queen of Spain. Since then it has become one of the most important operatic theatres in Europe, not only for its excellent artistic program and the quality of its Chorus and Orchestra, but also for the activities it organizes in conjunction with other Spanish cultural institutions. Teatro Real was awarded as “Best Opera Company” at the 2021 International Opera Awards.

I don’t understand why the Spanish orchestras are not making frequently european tour expect the one of Jordi Savall. On youtube I have seen many intersiting things from the TVE orchestra (a superb Ravel left concerto with Yeol Eum Son) for exemple or the orchestra of Galicia.
Whenever I look at the season for the Teatro Real, I get insanely envious. The variety and adventurousness of their programming is inspirational. I have the opportunity to get to Madrid with some regularity, but most of the time I have to settle for the increasingly sad offerings of the Met.
