The piano star is heading for an 18-day homeland tour in December.

She has never matched Lang Lang’s star status in China. Could this be the moment?
Here’s her itinerary

  • RW2013 says:

Playing Turangalila preceded by a Mozart symphony?!
And coordinating the Stravinsky concerto from the piano!

  • Ernest says:

She is too much of a serious musician to compete with Lang Lang for mass appeal.

  • Zenaida des Aubris says:

She is starting to conduct? Interesting …

  • msc says:

    I see she’ll be in Xi’an.
Given the prudishness of the Chinese communist regime, I will be interested to see her clothing choices.

  • WU says:

She has an outstanding technique (Lang Lang – not so much^^) and doesn’t pretend to be severely sick all the time while playing – Chinese television once used a dress of hers as an example for spoiled capitalism – so that will be interesting – will she go for the orange one (PROMS 2023) or the red one (PROMS 2022)??? Besides I wouldn’t play in China at all – it’s a dictatorship like Russia with a lot of human rights violations on all levels!

    • Who has played in PRC? says:

Probably you have never played in China anyway.
I have done many times all over PRC, in all its major cities.
Hey and I got paid (on time) for it, while the Chinese who learnt to play musical instruments don’t need us any more!

Although the country has changed a lot under Xi, you clearly forgot it was the WEST that treated China as a colony for centuries with staggering arrogance, and your comment about this huge diverse and ancient country doesn’t do much better.

  • Save the MET says:

Bang Bang is sloppy and never had Yuja’s precision and talent. If they don’t take to her, something is very wrong.
