Milwaukee mourns a bass
UncategorizedMaurice Wininsky joined the Milwaukee Symphony in 1975, when his New York rock band, Orpheus, broke up. He stayed and played double bass foor 35 years until an injury led to retirement in 2013.
Maurice died on September 30, aged 73.
Reese was a fine musician and an interesting character – at a time when the MSO had more than its fair share of interesting characters. His enthusiastic help with digital recording and electronic arranging (when those were both still in their infancy) played a big role in my wife’s reasonably successful book + cassette on the practical business side of wedding music. When he and I met we realized that we had met before, because we had conversed over beers and cevapcici a few times at a gritty Serbian/Italian bar in Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood. But I had no idea who he was at the time.
RIP Reese.
