New #1 cello at troubled Ulster Orchestra
OrchestrasThe music director is leaving and the concertmaster has gone. So has the principal cello… to Barcelona.
Her replacement is Thomas Isaac, previously co-principal in Bournemouth.
The orchestra management is unchanged.
But the orchestra management did change, when Richard Wigley their Managing Director departed about a year ago in autumn 2022 (after many successes there, I might add) to return to his homeland outside of the U.K. I believe. Rightfully earned in my opinion. His replacement is the UO’s former head of finance whose name I cannot recall.
Are you thinking of the manager, Patrick Mc Carthy by any chance?
Why the negative spin on a piece of good news? The Ulster Orchestra is in particularly fine form at present, just read the latest reviews on Bachtrack or listen to its concerts on Radio 3. The leader position has already been filled and a second leader will be appointed in due course.
Are they troubled? More information to support this assertion. please! And, by the way, they don’t have a concertmaster (whatever that may be); they have a Leader (just look at the orchestra’s website), like every other British orchestra.
