Liverpool renews its winds
OrchestrasThe Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra has appointed a new oboe section leader and principal second clarinet.
Oboist Helena Mackie (pictured, right) studied at Cambridge with her cousin, Nicholas Daniel. Clarinetist Emma Burgess has freelanced for several years with the leading London orchestras.
Nick is Helena’s uncle rather than cousin!
Huge congrats to Helena – I remember hearing her play when she was around 13? and going for NYO. She was clearly unbelievably musical and put any nepotism accusations to bed at the first hurdle.
