The London Symphony Orchestra has recruited a Spanish horn player to share principal duties with Tim Jones.

Diego Incertis of Valladolid has been playing until now in the Phiilharmonia, latterly as principal horn.

For the past year, he has also been a Professor at the Royal College of Music.

Because LSO is one of the slowest orchestras to fill positions (over 10 years vacated by David Pyatt), I never believe that they can find anyone suitable to this key position! But it seems that miracles still happen! HUGE congrats to Diego and LSO!! Now the better horn days are coming!

A very, very fine player. Great choice.

  • Neil Hunt says:

Quite a few losses for the Philharmonia.

    • Alexander Hall says:

It casts a very poor light on the new management at the Philharmonia that in the past two years they have managed to lose one of their two concertmasters (again to the LSO), a principal cello (to ENO), a principal oboe (to the BBCSO), a principal viola, a joint principal bassoon as well as several rank-and-file players. Plus the defection of Diego Incertis Sanchez. The other concertmaster was one of five being trialled for the position as concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Times might be hard but if you lose so many key players the alarm bells should already be ringing loud and clear. Despite all the PR hype it is patently obvious that Santtu-Matias Rouvali is not delivering memorable and interpretatively outstanding performances either.

Another one jumps the perpetually sinking ship that is the Philharmonia. It’s the same on the admin side too. Someone needs to sort it out but goodness knows who as they’ve tried plenty of managing directors over the past 6 years. Sad to see with what should be a wonderful and smooth-running orchestra.

  • Corno di Caccia says:

An excellent choice to work with Tim Jones. The LSO have had some great horn sections over the years. As had the Philharmonia. Shame that all appears chaotic with the latter, just now.
