German radio appoints Russian conductor
NewsThe NDR Philharmonie in Hannover has named Stanislav Kochanovsky to succeed Andrew Manze as chief conductor a year from now.
Kochanovsky, 42, is from St Petersburg. Hired by the Mikhailovsky Theatre at the age of 25, he has been conducting recently in London, Amsterdam, Zurich and Paris.
He is absolutely fantastic!!!!!!Great stick!!!!!
Warum? Are there not good German conductors for North German radio philharmonie? Did they ask what his position on the war is? Nichts. Deutschland, with Currentzis still in Stuttgart and now Kochanovsky in Hannover, you give a free pass to pro-Russian conductors and make a deal with the kremlin all the while you give Leopard tanks to Ukraine. Again I ask- Warum?
You can’t be serious. First, the music world is much bigger than small minded nationalistic territorialism. That’s what music is all about. A pan-human language and connecting force.
Second, Kochanovsky, while managing a difficult situation with his family rooted in Russia, has never taken a position of support of Putin’s aggression. To the contrary.
If anything, we need to be better than the nationalistic aggressors and war mongers, and not sink onto their level.
Never taken a position on his country’s barbaric assault on a neighbour – rape, abduction, torture, destruction of civilian facilities? Bit difficult not to take a position on that. Silence not a great idea. Oh, but I forgot…music rises above all this mundane stuff
Very parochial attitude you have! Why just a German????
„NDR Radiophilharmonie“ is the orchestra’s name. The Hannover-based NDR orchestra, besides the Hamburg-based „NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester“ (former „NDR Sinfonieorchester“).
I hope we’ll be getting a lot of rarely played Russian music by Glazunov, Myaskovsky, Prokofiev etc. and not simply another Brahms, Schumann or Beethoven cycle.
Lots of people on here think they have the right to tell orchestras and their administration whom they should hire and fire. No orchestra is off-limits for their criticism and some, like the Wiener Philharmoniker, earn more than their share.
I say again, if you want to influence the decisions of these orchestras please be good enough to open your own wallets and make a substantial financial contribution to their operating costs. Until that date you have the right NOT to attend their concerts if their decisions bother you.
