Barbara Hannigan takes London post
NewsThe Canadian singer-turned-conductor has been appointed Reinbert de Leeuw Professor of Music at the Royal Academy of Music.
The seat is named after her late mentor, the Dutch musical activist.
Hanigan’s job is to ‘direct ensembles, mentor singers and offer guidance to students on strategies for optimising performance.’
Moving, human and utterly artistic decision. Congratulations to a likewise Barbara Hannigan.
She is certainly reinventing herself constantly, now for the post singing career. A professorship and conducting. Not bad.
„Guidance on strategies for optimizing performance“ is a bit rich in Newspeak by the college though.
Is „teaching“ – in the context of a music college, obviously – not good enough anymore?
Good for her!
Dutch musical activist? Reinbert de Leeuw was so much more than an activist. This is really a strange description of De Leeuw.
