Berlin has a new Philharmonic
NewsThe Morgenpost has a feature on the Neue Philharmonie, a pick-up orchestra founded on the London model of taking care of the less glamourous aspects of the city’s musical life.
Its founder and conductor Andreas Schulz grew up in a Red Army orchestra in the former East Germany. He now has a core of 35 regular musicians and seven staff. This weekend the Neue Philharmonie gave a Royal Albert Hall-style family concert in the Konzerthaus.
