Curtis takes a first trip west
OrchestrasCurtis on Tour is taking its first cross-continent leap to Prescott, Arizona; and Santa Barbara and Davis, California.
Baton-for-hire Osmo Vänskä will conduct the Curtis Symphony Orchestra in the world premiere of Awakening Lion by composer Dai Wei, as well as music by Bartok, Schumann, Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov.
Julliard used to have the cutest summer series in Aiken, SC. Not sure it is going on anymore after the news of serial sexual harassment was made public.
I’m sure Curtis won’t have any problems with this, though.
Not a fair characterization. He’s outstanding. “Baton-for-hire Osmo Vänskä…”
Do we know why they’re going to Prescott, Arizona, a city with a population of about 45,000?
I’d have to imagine that this is a good orchestra that will give excellent concerts on tour. I do not quite understand the dig at Osmo Vänskä however – isn’t every professional conductor, who presumably has an agent, a “baton for hire?”
