Chicago Symphony gives it up for Apple Classical

Hot on the heels of Berlin, Vienna and the Concertgebouw, Chicago has signed over some of its concert performances to the new app.

CHICAGO — The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association (CSOA) is pleased to announce that four recordings from the CSO Resound catalog are now available in Spatial Audio exclusively via the new Apple Music Classical app. These include the Grammy Award-winning recordings of Verdi’s Messa da Requiem and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 13 (Babi Yar), as well as Riccardo Muti Conducts Italian Masterworks and Anthology of Fantastic Zoology, a CSO-commissioned work written by former Mead Composer-in-Residence and Grammy Award-winner Mason Bates. Already released in Spatial Audio on the app is the 2022 CSO Resound release of Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana. Each of the featured recordings showcases Chicago Symphony Orchestra performances led by Zell Music Director Riccardo Muti. With Apple Music Classical, Apple Music subscribers can easily find CSO recordings from the Orchestra’s expansive discography in the world’s largest classical music catalog.

In celebration of the launch of Apple Music Classical, the CSO Brass Quintet will perform at Apple Michigan Avenue on Wednesday, April 12 at 7:00 p.m. The ensemble featuring Principal Trumpet Esteban Batallán, Trumpet John Hagstrom, Trombone Michael Mulcahy, Principal Tuba Gene Pokorny and Horn David Griffin will perform pieces by composers Telemann and Verdi alongside contemporary works.
