A duo splits up, with a debut record to release
NewsDouble bassist Mikyung Sung and pianist Jaemin Shin recorded “The Colburn Sessions”, a 2-CD album, as students at Los Angeles elite Colburn School in 2018.
Then they broke up. Mikyung and Jaemin, we hear, no longer perform together or even speak to each other. The pianist refuses to have anything to do with new new release. The bassist has very little English and a small baby to look after.
The Colburn Sessions is due for release April 21 on Modus Vivendi Media MVM2301, on CD, download, and Apple Music.
We thought you’d like to know.
No offense, but are these noteworthy artists? Is this release of particular musical interest?
If not, then this article seems to be exploiting a breakup for no reason.
Go check her out on YouTube. I have never heard another bass player come remotely close to what she is able to do. I don’t really care about her personal life and I don’t know the pianist enough to comment, but she is one hell of a musician…
Most definitely will check her out. Thanks for the rec
Even better than Gary Karr? I can hardly believe that!
No disrespect to the great Gary Karr, Joel Quarrington has been the preeminent soloist for the last 20 years, imho, and, I would say that Mikyung Sung is on track to surpass Joel in the not-to-distant future. Don’t take my word for it – check out YT for both artists and do your own comparisons.
“The bassist has very little English and a small babay to look after.” WTH is this?
Does she play the bass with her feet? Ew.
Amazing double bass talent. Best of luck to her.
