A Chopin film protests three sites of inhumanity
NewsA Polish TV documentary, ‘Chopin. I am Not Afraid of Darkness’, follows three players who take the music to places of conflict.
The Polish pianist Leszek Możdżer, South Korean Won Jae Yeon and half-Syrian Fares Marek Basmadji visit Auschwitz, the border that cuts Korea in half and the destroyed city centre of Beirut.
Here’s a sampler.
Leszek Możdżer is a genius! Sadly he rarely performs outside Poland these days.
It seems odd to use Chopin in this project as the reports are that he was anti-semitic.
I am very doubtful about equating the Korean border with Auschwitz.
Thank you for this rec.
