We have been notified of the death of Nigel Brown, founder of the Stradivari Trust, which acauired and loaned out pedigree violins to promising young performers.

Nigel’s first act of generosity in 1985 launched the young Nigel Kennedy with the ‘La cathédrale’ Stradivari.

Nigel, who died on January 19 aged 77 worked in financial services and lived for most of his life in Cambridge. He also co-founded the Hazard Chase artist agency and helped launched the Britten Sinfonia. He was chairman of the Cambridge Arts Theatre.

    Nigel also supported a number of musical activities here at the University of Cambridge. He was a force for good in music and he’ll be very sadly missed.
