Spain laments a leading baritone
RIPThe outstanding Spanish baritone Enric Serra has died in Barcelona at the age of 83.
After his hometown debut as Morales in Carmen in 1966 he performed on many major stages, including the Met, and partnered most of the great tenors and sopranos of his time.
From the headline I thought something had happened to Domingo, but then I remembered he was/is Mexican.
He’s born in Madrid and is a Spanish national though (Plácido)
Sad news indeed for those who knew and admired him as a splendid singer and wonderful colleague. QEPD
Your example of Mr. Serra shows better French diction than I’ve heard from Metropolitan Opera baritones in recent years. Indeed a fine singer.
