American Brünnhilde quits German Ring
OperaA week before opening night, the American soprano Lise Lindstrom has walked out of Dresden’s Ring cycle.
‘Due to unforeseen circumstances, the situation in Dresden has changed and I have withdrawn from the Ring,’ sh posted.
No further details are known.
Dresden has whisked the German soprano Ricarda Merbeth into the role.
Not a good week for Americans in Europe…
Ricarda is superb. Great solution.
Lise is even better.
Not a solution. Need to get to the bottom of why a superb American singer needs to leave. Probably a crap concept production.
Just a point of clarification, Ms. Lindstrom has lived in Europe for years despite her nationality.
And? She’s still an “American in Europe.”
No mention of this under ‘news’ on her website.
As with so many other performers, her website is a little short on modesty.
Imagine meeting someone at a party whose opening line is ‘I have dazzled the world with compelling performances that are “truly world-class”.’
I have tickets to see her in Brisbane later this year. I’m hoping she lives up to this.
Strange. Americans are usually very self-effacing.
She didn’t say that about herself! A well respected opera critic wrote that, and it was valid and deserved. Ms. Lindstrom possesses an incredible voice, and is a stunning actor, too.
Of course her website is short on modesty: it’s a marketing tool. And it’s extremely unlikely that she wrote the text you’re referring to.
The limp wristed have taken over opera. I don’t mind a little swag if her performances justify it.
Yes, you have to be able to market yourself as a singer.
As Sieglinde or Brunnhilde?
She doesn’t have the warmth for Sieglinde.
Whole thing seems cryptic, especially with the carefully chosen words. And Thielemann conducting.
She was a very good Brünnhilde in Gotterdämmerung last July in Leipzig.
