Canada loses its best Spanish composer
RIPThe Société de musique contemporaine du Québec has announced the death of the composer José Evangelista, one of the driving forces of new music in Montreal. José was 79. He migrated to Canada in 1970.
An inspiration to young musicians, he numbered composers Analia Llugdar, Samy Moussa, and Ana Sokolovic among his pupils.
Played his “Symphonie minute” in 1997 and again in 2001. One of the finest pieces ever, in a never-ending ocean of new music.
