The human tragedy of COVID-19 decimating the Chinese people is due to the willingness of the government, and its president, to prioritize control over the welfare of their citizens. When trump conflated ways to treat COVID-19 on solid surfaces with treating human beings he was quickly denounced and scientists continued their efforts to develop safe and effective vaccines. China maintained lockdown measures, which were necessary when there were no treatment options, and later because their vaccines were virtually useless and poorly distributed because they refused to accept US/EU-developed vaccines. Spare me the quackery and political disinformation. China needed efficacious vaccines and a plan to distribute them.

Beautiful China has decided that the West is an enemy and would rather its people die than accept a more effective vaccine from them.

I live in China (my 11th consecutive year), and while “everyone” is getting sick, “everyone” is also recovering (average time, five to ten days). So, yes, it’s terrible that this performer died. On the whole, however, COVID is proving here to be what it has proven to be in the West for the last year or so–nasty and brutish but also relatively short.

Tell that to the families that are stuck in miles long lines of cars with dead relatives and no one to accept them for cremation. Try searching CNN for the video and on-site commentary.
