Minnesota snatches St Louis boss
OrchestrasThe Minnesota Orchestra has appointed a vice president of artistic planning to work with its new music director Thomas Søndergård.
Erik Finley is presently VP and general manager of the the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.
A step down?
Well, an interesting move. Maybe he decided he preferred working on matters artistic than on business and operations. Both outstanding orchestras, in any case.
I’m sure you are correct.
No.
Money, money, money
I imagine the musicians in St. Louis will be partying over this announcement!
Ooh, what makes you say that?
Why will the St. Louis players rejoice?
Except for the Winter, I’d prefer Minneapolis to St. Louis in most other regards.
Having been in both places in the winter, I prefer Minneapolis. You actually get some winter weather that allows snow sports, rather than winter weather that only keeps you cold and wet.
So his wife I guess remains in the St Louis orchestra until she can win an audition in Minnesota. Wonder when the ceo job in Minnesota will change over…..
Who is his wife? Lots of auditions coming up at MNO.
Good for Erik! Great guy; very smart and uber talented.
Good luck to Minnesota.
Big congrats to Saint Louis.
Wishing MN good luck! Fingers crossed!!!
How can you say “a step down?” The MO has been in the top ten for decades, even in the top five American orchestras. It is one of the most dedicated orchestras, even rehearsing with 100% attention at all times. My question is, why can’t a music director do all the artistic planning?
Because a music director isn’t considered successful unless he/she has a huge number of frequent flyer miles.
