Diapason founder dies
RIPThe death has been reported of Georges Cherière, founder-editor of the leading French music monthly Diapason.
Cherière ruled the magazine for 30 years from 1956 to 1986.
Soon after he founded Repertoire, a CD magazine which did not last long.
He was 89.
A mix of cunning storekeeper and centurion. Great figure.
REPERTOIRE was my favourite review magazine and ran for many years but once there were 4 monthly review magazines and the cd boom reduced, they merged with Classica which still exists.
seems that REPERTOIRE lasted 16 years with 174 issues before the merger with Classica though Cheriere passed the editorship to the equally excellent Christophe Huss in 1993
