Just in: Netrebko is nominated for Austrian award
NewsThe semi-sanctioned Russian soprano has been shortlisted for best female performance in the Österreichischen Musiktheaterpreis 2022 for her role as Lad Macbeth at Vienna State Opera.
She is one of four contestants, nominated by a panel of Austrian music critics.
The result will be made known on September 13.
Who are we, to judge the august Austrians and their spiritual connections with Putin allies? Their purposes and designs escape our common judgement. We are populace, they are imperial aristocratic blood.
Let’s not forget that the Vienna Philharmonic would have performed with Gergiev in New York. It was only because of narrow minded, stupid Americans that the world was denied a heavenly performance.
Moreover, the love relationship intrinsic in an award is sacred, ancestral and no one – I repeat no one – should interfere with it. Austrians can deliver awards to Putin lovers in the name of Art. By divine symmetry, Putin lovers can give award to whoever they wish. The deeper the reciprocal love, the more sacred the bond. As like the award recently conferred by Putin lovers on Muti:
a) In October 2021 (pretty recently!), in the headquarters of the Russian Embassy in Vienna, with an official ceremony, Maestro Riccardo Muti was appointed Honorary Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Arts
b) The honor was awarded by the Russian Ambassador to Austria Dmitry Lyubinsky
c) Since 1997 to the present day, the RAA (Russian Academy of Arts) has been headed by Zurab Tsereteli
d) Zurab Tsereteli has been heavily criticized throughout the duration of his career, with public opinion heavily shaped by his involvement with the Russian government. In March 2014 he was reported to have signed a letter in support of the position of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin on Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine.
e) Zurab Tsereteli is a great artist. One of his greatest creation, which surely live on to immortality, is the Putin statue you can admire here:

Muti cherishes this award very, very dearly. As he should. Only the Order of Friendship bestowed on him by Putin holds a deeper seat in the great man’s heart. He will never return these Russian awards, no matter how many rapes, how many deaths, how many wars Putin may unleash.
Remember: do not touch sacred love bonds, lest you will incur the karma you don’t want.
Oh, get lost. I don’t want slimy, ugly Gergiev back in New York City. He looks like he’s related to Steve Bannon. Both need to take a bath. The same goes for boring, overrated Netrebko.
Nasty bleating goat! She makes me sick. Run her back to Russia to Putin for whom she stated regrets she didn’t become her lover. He can have her!
This is shameful what you wrote. No wonder this civilization is over.
Scott, I believe that Lothario Hunter was indulging in irony.
At least Dominique Meyer had the decency to keep Staatsoper out of these ridiculous, utterly meaningless „awards“ created in 2012 by a comprimario tenor at Volksoper (I recall his big role was Monastatos). But any remaining decency went out the door with Bogdan Roščić’s arrival on the Ringstraße. I have sworn off opera in Wien, at least until Theater an der Wien’s renovation finishes (if I’m still breathing by then) and they can move out of the temporary, insanely-overpriced digs at MuseumsQuartier. Contrary to another hot topic in these pages, I will be increasing my concert-going in the coming season!
Me still believes that Karl-Michael Ebner is a better and more versatile artist than Mister Anonymous Bosch…
I’m certain she’ll get what she deserves.
as the old adage goes:
Things aren’t over until the [Netrebko] sings.
Let her eat cake so as to solidify the conclusion.
Ecclesiastes 1:2
Thank you for having me read The Bible.
Wish her well. Unlike most on here, I don’t personally know Anna or have met her so don’t qualify to sit in judgement or bash her up.
Laddie Macbeth?
Often wonder who are people who comment here. Opera lovers? Really? So little opera, so much political opinions and open hatered towards musicians because of their nationality and private beliefs. Sad modern world.
OF COURSE SHE IS!
It is Austria speaking. “Vee ver ze victims in WW2!” And they also celebrate the Putin band in Salzburg:).
