NewsSimon O‘Neill has called in sick for this Thursday’s Parsifal.
His replacement will be Stuart Skelton.
That’s called luxury double-casting.

mr. o’neill has been cancelling a lot lately (ever since last summer’s tristans in the uk); let us hope there is nothing wrong and that he recovers and returns to the stage soon; it should also be noted that anja harteros has cancelled all three of her kundrys in munich. this comes after she cancelled her three kundrys at the dob last month; i suspect that after her isoldes last summer in munich – this is probably a sign that she will not be moving into the dramatic soprano repertoire any further; after listening to her struggles with isolde i think this is a wise move
Dear Olivia, what the fuck are you talking about? I have Covid and although I am 100% healthy, German law requires that I sit the performance out. I am grateful to Stuart for performing the role. Secondly, when I withdrew because of from the 3rd Act of Tristan last year at the Proms after performing all 6 shows in the run prior in full and complete health and voice. Of course I was disappointed in letting my colleagues down but I had to protect my voice at that moment because of a cold. Nothing is wrong honey, just the stress of over 90% income drop from the past 24 months because of the pandemic. Like many other professional musicians we are all just trying to get ‘back on the horse’ and to the job we love.

If it is for Amfortas, getting sick is more likely than for any other role in the opera. Some singers identify so strongly with the character in their preparation that they become Amfortas before the performances.
Probably an improvement!
Luxury casting indeed. Pity the same can’t be said for the production.
