The Brussels Philharmonic has named Ilan Volkov as its principal guest conductor, working with music director Kazushi Ono.

Where Ono is mainstream, Volkov will add a modernist edge.

The orchestra has also hired 10 new musicians after the Covid lull.

Volkov is also principal guest with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Most agencies, especially the larger ones, do the same. Nothing wrong with it, unless they make signing one client conditional on taking another…

    • Piano Lover says:

The package probably includes a lot of cash and a lot of Strauss Waltzes…ready for End of Year Concert.

When did Volkov go from looking 15 to looking 60?

He has an extremely successful recording record, mostly on Hyperion. Frankly, I don’t know of any of his recordings that are not at least very good.

    Who is he?

  • Anton Bruckner says:

My perception is that Volkov is one of the most exciting conductors presently

  • Frank says:

Volkov can be interesting, but he’s not always consistent imho and experience, some decent recordings to his credit.
