Basel brings Swiss baton back home
NewsThe Swiss conductor Titus Engel will take over in 2023 as Principal Conductor of the Basel Sinfonietta.
He succeeds Baldur Brönnimann who has been in position since 2016.
Engel, 44, is presently with Vlaamse Opera in Belgium.
I am glad that my Swiss colleagues are getting someone good. Brönnimann is one of the worst, more arrogant and unpleasant conductors that has ever guest conducted me.
Brönnimann is not the most affable person in the world. He is good with contemporary music, but in my opinion a nullity when it comes to all other repertoire.
Titus Engel is quite good: professional, creative and polite. A good choice for Basel.
