This is a very wise renewal of contract. Since 2017 maestro Feltz has done wonders with the Belgrade Philharmonic – a verdict stated publicly by Zubin Mehta in July.
I heard Feltz conduct the orchestra in Mahler’s monumental Sixth Symphony in October and just last Friday, Brahms 2nd Piano Concerto, Rolf Liebermann’s pyrotechnic ‘Furioso’ and Strauss’ epic ‘Tod und Verklärung’.
Apart from an exceptionally clear baton technique and profound musicality, Feltz has engendered a truly fabulous string sound from the Balkans’ paramount orchestra.
The new Belgrade concert hall, championed by the late and deeply lamented Ivan Tasovac, is not an ephemeral Rattle-esque inducement to secure Feltz’s long-term commitment but a project which already has contracts and construction schedules in place.
In this instance at least, London can take a lesson from the surprising ‘White City’ on the Sava.
I know thar he made miracles with Belgrade Philarmonic
Thank you for informing me about renewal of his contract
A very wise decision
Sincerely yours
Feltz is in love in Belgrade!
That may or may not be true but Feltz is certainly serious about Serbia.
He has learnt to speak the difficult Serbian language quite fluently. No small achievement.
He did one of the best Mahler 9 with Dortmunder!
Out on SACD.
