Bader Ginsburg’s musical treasures are given to Washington National Opera
OperaThe family of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has given her piano, opera recordings, books and memorabilia to her favourite opera company.
WNO has inauguarted a Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Studio and Music Library in Takoma Park, where the piano will be kept in use and the Justice’s possession will be on display for WNO artists and guests.
The family of late Justice Antonin Scalia has also honoured the two judges’ long-standing friendship with a donation to WNO.
$$$ would be a much better gift.
What’s the WSO going to say to the executor: thanks, but money would be more helpful. Nobody here reads, listens to music, plays the piano or looks at souvenirs of past performances.
And what’s Scalia’s donation — chopped liver?
Your comment is a product of our times. More likely microscopic sir.
Reading the article, it looks as though there was a monetary donation made in addition to the piano and memorabilia.
WNO is in a far better position than the family to maximize the value of the gift, like in a benefit auction advertised to opera-loving RBG fans.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg was an example of what a well-rounded person a Supreme Court Judge needs to be to do her job well, while, simultaneously enjoying life and music. Her gift will be valuable on many levels.
As was Justice Scalia, one of her dearest friends and a partner with her at the opera.
I would’ve preferred she retire under Obama but great, she loved opera. Yay.
FYI, Chopin competition has posted the judges’ scoring…. https://chopin2020.pl/en/news/article/505/18th-chopin-competition—jurors'-scoring
Many of us are wondering what we can do with our huge collections of books, (vintage) films and CDs (classical) when we die. I’m glad these from RBG have found a home.
Wonder who’s in the market for the complete works of Jordan Peterson and Thomas Sowell and all the fear-of-Bolshevism diatribes of late 20th-century ranters.
