Music director withdraws mid-season for surgery
NewsMessage from Speranza Scappucci, music director in Liège, Belgium:
Dear Friends and Fans !
After a very successful production of Eugene Onegin, I am unfortunately forced to cancel my next project at Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège for Health reasons: I will undergo surgery tomorrow to remove a cyst in my throat that has has grown into a very considerable size. My doctors have advised not to postpone this any longer. For this reason I am very sad to have to cancel Lucia di Lammermoor in Liège.
I count to come back very soon and stronger than before and I ask for your comprehension if you have bought tickets to see me in this opera.
Sometimes we have to simply take care of our health before anything else
Looking forward to my next engagements in Munchen in December and then again Liège in January.
Grazie a presto arrivederci
Best wishes to Speranza for a successful procedure, and a return to good health soon.
Who is that person ? All the best to her!
You should get to know her, because she is a very good conductor. She works as musical director at the wonderful Opéra de Wallonie-Liège (Belgium) and has also an international career.
I hope she gets well soon.
She is indeed a VERY fine musician. Her career is thriving, and deservedly so.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
(But, really, “…if you have bought tickets to see me in this opera”…she does know that she’s not really “in” the opera???)
My thought, too. Humility is clearly not her strong point.
Don’t forget that she is Italian and thus writing in a foreign language (yes, some people do) and that it sometimes makes you a little clumsy, to use Joe Biden’s recent expression.
I have had several conversations at social gatherings with Ms. Scappucci and her English is more than competent to pick up linguistic nuance.
Having studied in the USA her English is, indeed, very good. The endless narcissistic Instagram posts also help.
I meant see me conduct in this opera. Some fans plan trips in advance to see artists . I think it’s important to let them know per time . Surgery went well , I’m now recuperating in the next days . Grazie
You are correct. Please accept my apology. I admire not only your abilities and professionalism, but also your energy and tenacity to make a major career.
Here’s to your quick recovery!
Surely they would come for the singers, would they not?
M. Sayer, I don’t understand your aggressivity: sometimes the opera lovers travel to see the singers, even one singer, but sometimes they travel just to see a conductor, it happened to me in any case!
