Classic FM’s Tribute to Jimi Hendrix without Nigel Kennedy.
This is rare archive footage of André Rieu playing his tribute to Jimi Hendrix. He was years ahead of Nige.
Is it a misreading of Hamer instead of Hammer in Mahler’s 6th?
Mahler, Rocker-Lieder
Boulez, Le marteau avec maître
YIKES! Did they have to do this behind the horns? I’d be leaping out of my chair when he did it. But I must say, it’s a great idea, LOL.
As the image has been manipulated, it’s a performance of Mahler 6.
Is it a photoshop of Mahler VI hammerblow with guitar instead of big-ass mallet ?
While we all are unnerved by french horn players cracking notes, this percussionist is clearly overreacting, and may need a vacation, or at least some therapy for remaining calm amidst missed notes, it being doubtful the conductor gave permission for him to react this way.
Unless the conductor was a percussionist.
Premiere of “Berceuse” by John Borstlap
Correct.
It looks like a Gerald Hoffnung take on Mahler 6.

Great photoshop of Mahler 3 !!
Mahler 6 as re-orchestrated by Nigel Kennedy?
Pete Townsend’s re-orchestration of Mahler 6?
Something in Salzburg. Don’t know what though
If it isn’t Winnipeg’s New Music Festival, it should be….

Pete Townshend conducts a tragic Mahler 6!
Looks like Mahler 6,000!
Great photo!
A most unusual way to play Mahler 6th!
Is it mahler 6, with pete townsend using a guitar instead of a hammer in the final movement
Mahler’s 6th, with the Berlin Philharmonic. That looks like Franz Schindlbeck swinging his axe like Pete Townshend.
“Jimi Hendrix Goes To The Symphony”
There is an electric guitar part in Lukas Foss’s entertaining “Phorion,” which I heard him conduct, but I do not recall the instrument being smashed.
Perhaps this is the newly discovered fourth blow in Mahler’s Sixth, based on the MS found among Pete Townshend’s effects.
Strangest interpretation of the hammer in Mahler 6 I’ve ever seen…
If that’s Mahler 6 I’m not QUITE sure that’s what the composer intended.
Mashup of Jimi Hendrix and Mahler 6?
Classic FM Live at the Royal Albert Hall?
https://slippedisc.com/2021/09/nigel-kennedy-blasts-classic-fm-censorship/
Not sure that’s what Mahler had in mind, but if it works, what the heck.
If this is Mahler 6, I’m not quite sure that’s what the composer had in mind…
Another orchestra that refused to play Jimi Hendrix to please a petulant teenager?
Mahler 6. 😉
The rock ‘n’ roll arrangement of Mahler 6.
Presumably Mahler 6 or Berg “Three Pieces for Orchestra”, Op. 6.
A Mahler 6–after the hammer broke on the first blow.
An angry LSO musician saying no to playing Jimmy Hendrix.
Townsends Riff no. 6
They’re playing Gluck’s Ballet of the Blessed Spirits. Where’s my 5 pounds?
Perfect visual of how the guitar went to become the worlds most popular instrument while orchestras rent star wars costumes to beg kids to please like them…and fail miserably at it.
NEXT!
Mahler 6th
This is most likely that new updated version of Mahler’s 6th “Tragic” Symphony which now uses the modern “Slap Bass” effect.
Young audiences prefer this to the traditional unwieldy wooden hammer which has now become outdated.
A variant of Bruckner’s fourth?
Franz Schindlbeck (Berlin Philharmonic) in Mahler’s Sixth.
No one seems to know here. I’d guess an orchestral tribute to Pete Townshend? Or Paul Simonon of the Clash?
Mahler’s Sixth, re-orchestrated by Glenn Branca?
Using a guitar for the three hammer strokes (of fate) in Mahler?? Except that the first
strike would destroy the guitar…
The concert: “The BBC Symphony Orchestra plays The Who.”
Clearly, it’s the performance of the ‘Urversion’ of Beethoven’s fifth, before he deleted the guitar percussion part on the advice of Archduke Rudolph, who had issues with pop music (he became arch bischop later in life).
Ah, if Mahler had used this instrument in this way since the First Symphony! … a dream …
A little known symphony in A minor by Mahler, known as “The Photoshop”.
Is this the Anvil chorus from Il Travtore? Maybe the Anvil hadn’t arrived or had been stolen
The hammer blows in the finale of Mahler’s 6th.
A newly discovered PDQ Bach work?
This is what happens when you try to upstage “Sing It Yourself Messiah” with “Play It Yourself Mahler 6”
Mahler 7th mandolinist realises he has brought the wrong instrument.
