Just in: Japanese wins ARD violin contest
NewsThe last result is in from a very low-key 2021 ARD music competition in Munich.
In the violin section Seiji Okamoto, 27, from Japan convinced the jury, which awarded him the first prize. Dmitry Smirnov, 28, came second. Alexandra Tirsu, 29, from Moldova / Romania came third but also took the audience prize.
The competition needs to work on boosting its international reception.
Maybe their “international reception” could be better, but there’s no denying the quality of many, many ARD winners over the years.
“Musicians’ musicians”.
The competition’s prestige varies depending on the instrument. For instruments less often heard as soloists (brass, double bass, etc.) it is among the top competitions, for sure.
Bravo to Seiji on his victory. Excellent playing!
