Death of a formidable cello influence
RIPThe cellist, teacher, historian and publisher Nona Pyron has died in Santa Barbara, aged 88.
A student of Gabor Rejto at the Eastman School, Nona conducted the interviews that resulted in William Pleeth’s influential book ‘Cello’ for the Yehudi Menuhin Music Guides.
A researcher of the instrument’s early history, she collected some 6,000 unknown scores, some of which she performed and later published in her own imprint, Grancino Editions. They include works by Cervetto, Cirri, Caporale, Lanzetti, Somis and more. Nona taught at Willamette University, Oregon, and at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California.
