Most performed opera in Covid year?
NewsThe Deutsche Bühnenverein – covering 410 theatres in Germany, Austria and Switzerland – has published its annual statistics for the 2019-20 season, the last four months of which were subjected to general lockdown.
It reports that many theatres responded to shutdown with digital innovation. In Germany alone, there were 584 live streams in from March to July 2020, of which one in six were new digital presentations.
Befofre the last curtain fell, the most performed opera was – as usual – Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, followed by Magic Flute (mostly for children) and La Boheme.
I would have thought “Un ballo in maschera” might be a fitting candidate?
Carmen….
The most performed opera every year uses to be ‘Die Zauberflöte’. (Or that is the opera with the largest number of productions?)
The photography, however, points to ‘Hänsel und Gretel’.
