What a cheap headline. Sir Andrew Davis’ wife died and he was unable to take part in this series of performances. Shame on you. Shame on me for actually visiting this tawdry website .

Poor Andrew Davis. Grief is a horrible thing. Do hope he’ll back soon. Will miss him enormously in England conducting at the Proms.
I won’t miss him much- very sorry to hear of his wife’s passing. He was brilliant as a young man- particularly his spell in Canada with The Toronto orchestra. But his deranged Brigadier routine at the Last Night was irritating, insincere & predictable. Capable of the odd inspired performance but’s he’s rather greedily hogged The Proms gigs for the last 3 decades when many equally deserving British conductors could have done an equally good job. Cheers.
Rattle doesn’t want to do the Last Night, and I can imagine there are many others who don’t want to do it either.
Lothan Koenigs is a splendid conductor and a wonderful human being and notwithstanding the sad circumstances of his being hired in this particular instance, I congratulate him.
