This video is called Journey of the Pantoum, and the movement is titled Pantoum. As for known truths, we know Ravel was consumed by the impending war and enlisted as soon as he completed the Piano Trio. The brilliant animation provides a sense of what Ravel may have been thinking as he put the work together in only five weeks. The playing is fantastic.
I enjoyed this, both the animation and the music. But then Ravel is sublime.
Ravel always was, in his quiet manner. The music has never grown old or outdated, ‘in spite of’ being ‘traditional’ and at a distance of ‘modernism’.
