Very, very sad, but I suppose it comes to us all in the end
Two lovely, irreplaceable people at the centre of the UK’s musical life. Thanks for your music and friendship, both of you. RIP.
Still can’t really believe that two of the most inspiring, musical and generous people I’ve ever met are no longer with us – such a loss to UK music and to their many, many friends and colleagues. I will never forget Tony calling to invite me to attend the first rehearsal of his “elaboration” of Elgar 3 and Jane travelling to Perth, Australia to attend and sing at my wedding – these will always be treasured memories. RIP and thanks both for everything.
It often happens this way with lifelong couples. The older you get, the more life depends on the will to live. I was slightly acquainted with a great sanskritist who died within hours of finding the body of his wife. They were discovered together. Both were very old. For lovers, could there be a better way to go?
