The Český Krumlov International Music Festival has booked the octogenarian opera singer for its first night, together with the Da Vinci Code author Dan Brown, who will read from his children’s book during an orchestral performance of his Wild Symphony.

You really couldn’t make it up.

You can make it up, and they did. Therefore, your remark to the contrary is rather obviously redundant no matter what one thinks about the artists or programming. It will probably sell well enough to justify the decision.

  • V.Lind says:

If a man is known by the company he keeps, then Domingo is recently in scraping the bottom of the barrel territory. His political mates are not the last word in morality, and this creature is at the very bottom of the literary food chain.

    • Andrew Constantine says:

Whatever you think of his writing, Dan Brown is very knowledgeable and appreciative of music. His family also has considerable musical prowess – his mother told me that she trained at Peabody as an organist and his brother is a choral conductor. The parents were also extremely nice people so perhaps describing him as a ‘creature’ is rather sour to put it mildly.

    • George says:

The festival has an exhibition about Children’s books from all over the world, that is why Dan Brown is reading. Hope he’s not choosing to read from ILLUMINATI 🙂

  • The View from America says:

    We’ll mark our calendars.

  • George says:

Dan Brown is reading on July 31st.
Plácido Domingo is singing on September 4th.

I could have made this up! 🙂

  • MMM says:

Lebrecht, your personal vendetta against Domingo only makes you look ridiculous (and greedy — we all know it sells). Give it a rest.

  • Rob says:

    *Vomit*

  • Madeleine Richardson says:

Domingo’s agenda has been filling up. I suspect that is the problem. He will also sing in Monte Carlo for the National Day celebrations (only special guests, to be invited by the Palace.)
