A much-deserved honor. The awards show will be aired on June 6 on CBS.

  • microview says:

Maybe awarded as her English was better than Dick Van Dyke’s?

  • Greg Bottini says:

    Congratulations, Midori-san!
I’ve always loved your playing, and you deserve this and every other award that can be given you.

  • FrankInUsa. says:

I hope everyone watches the accompanying video.

  • Barry Guerrero says:

    That’s quite a mix!

    • Larry says:

Those of us who grew up in the ’60s are a bit bemused to see the original “counter culture” woman, Joan Baez, receiving an award from the federal government! Bravo to them all!

  • David J Hyslop says:

Midori and I first met when she was 14 years old and she appeared as soloist with the St. Louis Symphony. She then toured Japan and Hong Kong with the St. Louis Symphony, conducted by, then music director, Leonard Slatkin.
Since that time I have worked with her in Minnesota , Louisville and , on one occasion, judged for her Foundation.
In addition to being a great artist, she is the hardest working person in the performing arts that I have ever known.
Congratulations to her as the honor is well deserved.

  • Yet another exercise in establishment cultural hegemony. Legitimization through association.
