The Australian soprano Siobhan Stagg and composer Dermot Tutty have released a wonderful new song about the plight of musicians in Covid shutdown.

Listen to the song here.

Text:

All the halls and theatres
From Melbourne to Berlin
Are crying for the music to return
To start to ring
I suppose we could all put on our fancy dress
And play some fancy songs
That would be something
I guess…
But if a lonely silence were to follow
Even the most glorious sound would ring hollow
I long for the other silence
Listen…
How I long for the other silence
For your stories
Your history
Your truths no words could share
Your memories of love and loss
That mystify the air
That sacred moment
The essence of this art
The sharing of our deeper selves
From heart to heart to heart
Without you I’m but a wounded bird
Sobbing all alone
Music will return to the theatres
Once your stories find their way home

ALL THE HALLS ARE CRYING FOR MUSIC TO RETURN
but not with droopy songs like this…

  • JussiB says:

In many countries including the U.S., performing artists are non-essential workers and are therefore at the mercy of the public and corporations with disposal income to support them.
