Bayreuth names business boss
mainThe Bayreuth Festival has appointed Ulrich Jagels to succeed Holger von Bergs as commercial director.
He arrives from Leipzig Opera, which has just landed a 6-million Euro federal grant to rebuild its stage machinery.
Bayreuth needs to hire a Chief Diversity Officer.
So what you’re saying is, Herr Jagels couldn’t be whiter of hair or complexion? Do you think in his youth, he was the “Milky Bar Kid”?
Don’t think they have Milky Way Bar in Bavaria. Try Topkuss.
Does Europe really succeed in getting younger people interested in opera (by “younger”, I mean folks roughly between 22 and 55)? . . . If so, how?
Yes, because it maintains standards, traditions, and ceremony. That is precisely the way in which to get younger people interested in opera, as opposed to meaningless ‘diversity’ initiatives and the dumbing down of masterpieces, both of which are far too prevalent elsewhere.
I haven’t listened to a Bayreuth broadcast in years. The stagings are so awful, they can’t even be listened to.
Yuval Sharon’s “Lohengrin” wasn’t so bad.
