Turks mourn composer, 89
mainThe doyen of Turkish composers Muammar Sun died this weekend at 89.
A student of the composer Ahmet Adnan Saygun, Sun founded the Composers, Conductors and Musicologists Union and ran his own self-named publishing house.
What a shame to discover worthy composers like Mr Sun only after their demise. His Izmir Rhapsody sounds very much in the lineage of Saygun and, more broadly, Kodaly and the stream of national-Romantic composers of the Balkans. May he rest in peace, but may his music continue to live.
