The Wiener Staatsoper Site http://www.wiener-staatsoper.at) still should have her Tosca debut from last night on free stream. It’s available for 24 hrs. They performed live without an audience. Was great to watch!
It was perhaps the worst “Tosca” I have seen/heard in more than 50 years. I can’t even tell you in what language it was sung. The absolute worst was Wolfgang Koch as Scarpia. Parts of it were simply laughable, especially Netrebko’s very own private take on the end of Act II. The only plus: Bertrand de Billy on the podium.
She’s a big star and you’re…????
She really does sound horrible in this role, I wonder why she is trying to sing everything… She seems very unconfortable in the role, both vocally (she seems she is singing with plums in her mouth) and dramatically (she acts like a country girl, not a diva).
If London theatres will be open, she is tackling the role at Covent Garden in January (with a lot of promotion behind) but I would not pay £1 to hear or see her in the role, it’s an embarssement to all truly great singers! Another disappointment from the Royal Opera is accepting to hire her even less talented husband.
Netrebko should now stick to her Turandot and possibly Abigaille – the only roles she would justice now with her big screams!
perhaps they cast wolfgang koch because he is horrid, so as to make the no talent mister netrebko and the screaming anna seem better?
Any danger of young N pursuing a singer career in future?
Her son has autism, so likely not in a professional capacity.
