A significant omission in La Scala’s opening gala
mainThe first night of La Scala’s new season, always held on December 7, will have no opera and no audience this year.
Instead it has cameos from: Ildar Abdrazakov, Roberto Alagna, Carlos Alvarez, Piotr Beczala, Benjamin Bernheim, Eleonora Buratto, Marianne Crebassa, Placido Domingo, Juan Diego Florez, Elina Garanca, Vittorio Grigolo, Jonas Kaufmann, Aleksandra Kurzak, Francesco Meli, Camilla Nylund, Kristine Opolais, Lisette Oropesa, Marina Rebeka, Ludovic Tezier, and Sonya Yoncheva.
Music director Riccardo Chailly will conduct the Scala orchestra and chorus.
Anyone feeling left out?
Oh, a significant omission.
Yes,…THE MUSIC!!
Netrebko?
Yes. She will sing in Saint Petersburg.
Why in hell is Domingo in that lineup? Missing is Lisette Oropesa, no?, who was supposed to open the season as Lucia d L.
Lisette Oropesa is indeed on the list of singers, it just seems that Norman has her mistakenly omitted from this list. But she was one of the first signed on to sing in this concert, as her promotions of it began immediately after the Lucia was canceled.
Actually Lisette Oropesa IS performing (according to her instagram account and the La Scala official poster). Mr. Lebrecht just didn’t mention her.
Mr Grigolo.
No Muti?
I don’t think Muti has conducted at La Scala since his abrupt resignation from the music directorship in 2005. Am I wrong?
Wrong as he conducted a guest concert with his orchestra just before a lockdown in february
I meant ——–Mr. Grigolo?
In this difficult moment Chailly gives me a christmas gift 18 before. I suppose Norman that you are talking about Luca Salsi…
Yes, I do feel left out – I have received no invitation… Again!
Well… Mr Netrebko (pictured) is not on the list because his wife isn’t there, as it seems she will be singing in Russia.
If she would have been in Milan, he would have been on the list too! Just like Alagna and his much less talented current wifey, he is there so she is there too, what a surprise!
I think the question would actually be: Anyone feeling overrated because they were put on this way too looong list?
Because many of the ones there are definitely curious choices. Also bear in mind that the line-up here on slippeddisc is not actually the complete one, an update would be nice.
Has anyone noticed that there is no one from the Anglo-Saxon (including North American) world?
England is still in lockdown and travel restrictions still apply in the UK.
