Bryn Terfel to make role debut next month
mainSome enterprising Austrians in Graz are putting on a Fidelio next month for three nights.
It’s the Junge Konzerte Graz in cooperation with the Bühnen Graz and it’s a concertante/semi-staged open-air production in the castle grounds on August 20, 22 and 23. The conductor and organiser is Markus Merkel
Now take a look at the cast: Barbara Krieger (Leonore), Peter Seiffert (Florestan) and Sir Bryn Terfel (role debut Pizarro).
Good time to make a debut.
good for him!
These projects are usually financed by the family money of the soprano.
Nothing wrong with paying to sing…
But plenty wrong with throwing out random smears with no info.
What info do you need to keep up?
Damned if you do and damned if you don’t! RW201, it’s not about who pays when there is social distancing and an invisible virus out there – no such thing as a free lunch. It’s about contributing for the greater good and for the good humanity- in this case, with a substantial opera, not an Italian pot–boiler and not set in a car park People are on their knees in the classical world. Well done to all of them as a quality performance in the making.
Miraculous news!! This will spread like a healing balm across the entire planet and restore all mankind mentally, spiritually and physically!!!
The above comment is just plan ridiculous. I am listening to someone who has serious vibrato issues and pitch problems. He is just not that special anymore. His voice is just awful and he is riding on a name. People need to listen and not be so entranced by a someone. If you listen objectively you can hear the pitch issues which are constant along with a poor vocal delivery. Companies employ them as they have a name and will bring in people. Personally, I cannot stand his singing and there are many out there who need a chance to be heard instead of this…Welsh charm cannot hide what isn’t there.
No, he just broke his ankle.
How? If listening to out-of-tune singing will help the planet then we are all in serious trouble.
Good for you, Sir Bryn!
Nothing against Peter Seiffert, but isn’t he too old now for the part of Florestan?
Terfyl’s ill-fated attempt at Wotan foundered 0n his sad hirsute facial resemblance to a certain breed of Welsh sheepdog. Ill-suited assumptors rom Lawrence Tibbett to Eric Owen and barely acceptable; Otto Edelman and Eric Owen, a type-cast Alberich. James Morris was tolerable, though sing[ng from one corner of his mouth a at home on stage, but lacking godly grandeur or projected German dicton, Hotter’s forte.
Hans Hotter, Heinz Rehfuss, Herbert Jansen almost, and a few others assumed it well, H in the Bayreughotter memorably between 1938 and 1954-55 when i saw him snik, Greindl as the giant Fafnir and inadequate Dragon/Wurm in poor, gravely voice (he fell on the central parabola and almost rolled off into the Mysterious Depths but caught himsel)t, alas Max Lorrenz, Paul Kuen, Milankovic, Keilberth conducting, to a Los Angeles’s “Walkuere” only with San Francisco Opera on tour, Birgit Nilsson US debut, Svanholm, Hotter, Leinsdorff conducting.
Here the interview he gave on this occasion: https://youtu.be/PS0oKjKBM2k
