The Czech Philharmonic will perform next week for an audience of 500 in the grounds of Sychrov Castle, outside Prague.

Semyon Bychkov conducts. The programme is almost normal:

MENDELSSOHN Midsummer Night’s Dream
HAYDN Trumpet concerto (Solist: Stanislav Masaryk)
BEETHOVEN 5th Symphony

The Czechs are bouncing. The rest of us are screwed.

Comments

  • Simon Broughton says:

Why ‘almost’ normal? Seems quite standard to me. Great to see things returning.

  • Ondrey says:

The Czech Phil arleady performed a full orchestral concert in Rudolfinum last Saturday, for an audience of 500.
Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances, Mahler’s Ruckert Lieder and Berio’s Folk Songs. Big orchestra.

  • Tamino says:

And in Copenhagen they also played a symphony orchestra concert, indoor, to an audience of 500 last week.
Apparently we are slowly heading back to normal, at least on this side of the pond. (knocking on wood)

  • Jay says:

Boring beyond belief ! It’s not so much
a concert as an other museum trip down memory lane.

  • Dennis says:

Good to see some people in Eastern Europe waking up and acting like human beings. Novak Djokovic and Serbia gave the world a nice two-finger salute over the weekend. Let’s hope we see more people waking up from the technocrat-induced Covid-coma.

    • MacroV says:

The reason the Czechs are able to do this is that they took the lockdown very seriously, and managed to slow the spread significantly. They are not Florida and Texas.

  • fflambeau says:

How many of those 500 will fall ill and possibly die?

I’d wait a while longer. Make it clear things will return to normal but that is not now.

    • Tamino says:

Except for a few hotspots, most regions on this planet ARE quite normal. With a bit of commons sense and care things CAN return to normal.
What takes longer is to bring those people who ate the fear bait back to normal, normalise their brains and align them again with real world risks all around us. You seem to be one of them.
Fear kills the normal brain function.
Currently it is (again) much more dangerous to die in a car accident taking a taxi downtown, than dying from visiting a full concert hall downtown.
