I do not think he did the Israeli military service which is 3 years
Perhaps he said he was religious
But Norman said it’s a failure, how dare Barenboim to do this if Norman said it’s a failure?
Barenboim should not return to the stage until 2023, keep distance of people and listen to his records just like all the stupid comments here say. How dare he do something like this?
can’t say I will ever miss him – he’s been boring for decades
Carlos Kleiber referred to him as Borenboim.
He has more passports from different countries than i have had coffee’s
At starbucks
Try a good coffee. Illy or Lavazza.

Says sunday evening
Well, just as Norman has always had a strong element of “the world is ending — in fact it already has, we just don’t know it yet” in his personality, Barenboim has always had a strong element of “you can’t tell me what to do” in his.

Eine Kleine Nachtmusik of all things? What happened to Pachelbel’s Canon and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons?
there is always someone who is miserable and has to tell others to join him in misery.
A message of hope. Good night. Good morning.
a war’s end concert? so the war is over now?
WWII is. Good news, eh?
which one? be more precise. the war against reason, knowledge and human compassion has not ended, it just intensified on many fronts.
I wish Strauss Metamorphosen had been included. It is just as appropriate for then and for now.
/Metamorphosen/ is an ideal work for commemmorating the end of the European theatre of ‘hot’ war in 1945; although I am a British citizen, I am deeply uncomfortable with the term “Victory” to describe the outcome and aftermath of a war that cost so many lives on *all* sides of the conflict, and I feel Strauss captured the monumental tragedy extraordinarily well in /Metamorphosen/. But it requires 23 *string* players. /Siegfried-Idyll/ and /Eine Kleine Nachtmusik/ can be done with a much smaller string section, which is, I suppose, the paramount consideration given the present pandemic situation.
Please, Please, Please remember that World War II did not end until the armistice of 2nd June 1945. Ask all those who did not return from the Far East until after that date. Thus this so called commemoration is named totally wrongly!!!!
VE day is 8 May, and few if any of the European countries were involved in the Asian front.
15th August 1945!
2nd of June? Hiroshima and Nagasaki never happened?
May 8 is the day for Germany. That’s the way it is.
Jacques Chirac’s funeral. End of War Concert.
Barenboim has his fingers in many pies.
They should have chosen works by US, British, Russian and French composers, too.
Please stop trashing everything Barenboim does or says. He has been an extraordinary force for good in the world.Anyone can have an opinion of his performances but the fact that he his still out there on the highest level. Furthermore it can easily be argued that the Staatsoper in Berlin would not have survived reunification without his support.
His divan orchestra is a very good idea
