Tchaikovsky Competition loses a pillar
mainThe death has been announced of the violinist Irina Bochkova, placed second with Shmuel Ashkenasi in the 1962 Tchaikovsky Competition and a member of its jury many times since.
Irina, who was 81, was a concertmaster with the Moscow State Academic Philharmonic and a teacher at the Moscow State Conservatoire.
Her students include Elena Revich and Olga Volkova.
