  • Nathaniel Rosen says:

We have become so spoiled. I am sure that I am not the only one who immediately thinks, “Too bad it’s not a video”.

  • Nathaniel Rosen says:

When I see the information that my comment is “awaiting moderation”, what does that mean? Does Norman do all the “moderating”? It would be a long and thankless job, whatever it means.

  • Ruben Greenberg says:

I imagine this is with what was called “l’Orchestre National de l’ORTF at the time.

  • Dan oren says:

Worth mentioning that Celibidache conducts l’orchestre national de France

  • Michael Isador says:

    What orchestra and where recorded?

    • Ruben Greenberg says:

Orchestre National de l’ORTF that became l’Orchestre National de France a couple of years later. This was recorded at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées…or maybe at the Maison de la Radio. I attended that memorable concert.

      • Dan oren says:

Martha told me years later that their conception of the tempo in the second movement was not the same: Celi wanted it much slower than her. Eventually she gave up and at the concert he turned to her with a big smile during that movement !

        • Esther Cavett says:

Anne-Sophie Mutter once walked out of a rehearsal with Celi after disagreement of Sibelius Cto tempi. He of course wanted them ridiculously slow

          • Boris says:

And there was the orchestra whose members threw their music at him when he was being especially demanding. The gig was cancelled altogether, but the story was priceless.

It was in his obit, that called the orchestra just one from Italy; which is just fine. The picture was all one needed.
