More nights at the Met for Mr Netrebko
mainPress statement from the Met:
Yusif Eyvazov will sing Hermann in the performances of Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades on November 29 and December 2 and 5, replacing Aleksandrs Antonenko, who has withdrawn due to illness.
Eyvazov, who was called in late to cover the second half of the run, has taken over the whole run.
He started the season with just one booking at the Met – the New Year’s Gala.
This ought to ease Mrs Eyvazov’s concerns.
He is a fantastic Hermann. He sang this role in Bolshoi which was highly appraised.
Stop mocking him in such a basic way.
You don ‘t have to exaggerate. At the Bolshoi Theatre, the Eyvazov sang Hermann weakly, and without success. This party is not on his voice.
It ‘ll go away for the Met. They only sing there now.
They only sing at the Met? So her Tosca’s announced for La Scala this month, and later for London and Salzburg, together with other 2020 engagements such as her Paris Lecouvreur, her Munich Turandot and her Dresden Elisabetta are all misprints?
Norman, why are you continually demeaning Yusif Eyvazov? Have you ever heard him? Remember, he was cast by Riccardo Muti in Rome before he ever met Netrebko, and just two years ago he opened La Scala’s season, in a title role, under Riccardo Chailly, and was well received. His debut at the Met years earlier, as Calàf, was also solidly received. Give him some credit, unless you have reason not to! Personally I have no opinion on his voice, but my impression is that he is a helluva nice guy, very smart, and an excellent father to Anna’s kid.
Yeah, we’ve heard that Anna “solidly receives” him on a somewhat regular basis.
Gross.
He may be a wonderful fella but he has an ugly, nasal, constricted voice. Anyone with a pair of ears and some knowledge of opera singing can hear that.
He has some odd sounding mouth resonances in parts of his range but he is infinitely preferable to the now unbearably bad duffer he’s replaced and who should never have been engaged in the first place. Casting singer five to seven seasons in advance is an artistic disaster.
Yusif Eyvazov is a dreadful, third rate singer who would have never, ever got anywhere near the big houses if it wasn’t for his wife. Being a nice guy and a good stepfather doesn’t make anyone a singer! Also, if it is true that Muti cast him before he met Anna Netrebko, then Muti made a huge mistake. It happens!
So sue me; I think AN is possibly THE most boring person on the scene right now.
Pot…kettle…
Could you provide your lawyer’s details?
As if anyone cared
Something is very wrong with Mr. Antonenko. He’s canceled far more than he’s sung in the past couple of seasons.
Martian blog readers will infer that Miss Eyvazoz married Mr. Netrebko and changed her last name.
He deserves a lot more respect than he has received in recent years. It can’t be easy to be married to such a high powered singer. He would not be getting the engagements he is getting if he couldn’t deliver. Give him a break!!
This is simply not true. His singing is poor to the point of being embarrassing. Anyone who wants to hire Anna Netrebko has to hire him as well; it’s either the whole “kit” or nothing. This is no secret to anyone.
