Jasper Hope has left his job as CEO of Dubai Opera.
Hope, former head of London’s Royal Albert Hall and brother of violinist Daniel Hope, lasted just three years.
No reason given on either side, but we hear staff members lined the backstage corridors to give him an impromtu ovation the night he left.

Most of these Middle Eastern countries have appalling records in Human Rights… why anyone with any regard for Human Rights and fellow human beings would want to work or perform in these countries beats me… oops, yes, I just remembered… they do it not for Art but for MONEY !

No idea why it’s called Dubai Opera when the only appearance of that genre between now and April 2020 is three performances of La Traviata, memorably described in this urgent résumé, possibly penned by Sir Neville Cardus himself:

That’s a libellous comment, easy to make from the safety of your nom de plume but certainly most not true and most unfair. Jasper Hope did a pretty good job in opening the Dubai Opera and programming it over the past three years.
